AFF has invited representatives of the US Corps of Engineers and they have accepted. Recently, one of our AFF board members met with members of the Corps to discuss the Little Red. He came away with a better understanding and appreciation for their options, requirements, & the factors in their decision making processes (won’t say he loved every response...but he came to respect the professionalism & thoughtfulness put into matters)....this is a perennial issue for fly fishers and everyone benefits from understanding where the professionals charged with management of this resource are coming from. We are asking for questions. Here’s a few that have already come to us: How do they balance the watershed -- dams, lakes, rivers --- what takes precedence? How do they feel about minimum flows? How much does S.W. Power dictate flow levels --- do they take into consideration weekends where more fishermen are present? How much do the non-resevoir watersheds contribute to the calculation. When rain sits over N.E. Arkansas and Southeast Missouri -- the Black river pours a lot of water into the White. How much is still out of their control? Great questions. Keep ‘me coming.
